HORSE SLAUGHTER STATS – SEPT. 2019
The most recent horse slaughter statistics have been released by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada , ending in September 2019.
Compared to the same period last year:
- Live horse exports for slaughter (section outlined in red)- 2231 horses which is 140 fewer than in 2018, a decrease of 5.9%
- US horse imports for slaughter (outlined in green) – 7994 horses, down from 8025 the previous year, a decrease of 0.4%
- Horse meat exports (outlined in orange) – increased by 4.6%
According to Statistics Canada, Japan led the list of countries importing horse meat from Canada in 2019, followed by France, the United States (Nevada), Switzerland, Belgium, Albania, Germany, New Zealand, Italy and Vietnam.
